As an EDUCATOR Joy helps arts educators and community organizations plan and execute new steelpan programs. Her consulting clients include the York Region District School Board and schools in the Toronto and Durham district school boards. She supports these educational institutions by training teachers and also guiding students. Although she leads many of the workshops, her ultimate goal is to empower educators to creatively engage students with the steelpan and meet curriculum goals through alternate, inclusive and anti-oppressive pathways.
Beyond her work in the formal education system, Joy has led workshops and residencies with corporate and community partners including the Harbourfront Center, the Toronto Public Library and the Evergreen Brickworks. She is passionate about wellness, community engagement, and is often called upon to not only teach steelpan but speak and participate in panels that address topics of health, wellness, community engagement and organizational strategy.
